Itinerary

+ Expand All- Collapse All

You will be picked up by our Everest Heli guide and driver from your hotel (whether you are staying in a hostel, hotel, or apartment) in Kathmandu. We'll then drive you to the airport. Please wear warm clothing such as jackets, gloves, and trousers before leaving. Do not forget to pack your water bottle, passport, dry food, light snacks, and any medicines you may need. You can bring your breakfast. From Kathmandu Valley, the drive to the airport is about 20-30 minutes.

At the airport, you'll go through a check-up and wait in line. Our staff will ask for your passport copies. It will also weigh you, as this is very important for the Everest Helicopter Tour.
After you get your boarding pass and go through security, you'll wait in the main hall until the airline announces the flight time. Then, you'll proceed to the helipad. At the helipad, the captain will give a safety briefing. You'll learn how to handle the doors and how to get in and out of the helicopter. Always enter and exit from the front of the helicopter and never approach the tail. When stopping at high altitudes, the captain will keep the engines running. The seating arrangement may change during the flight to ensure everyone gets the best views. If you need oxygen, you can ask the captain for emergency use.

If the weather is clear, you'll see amazing views of Mt. Manaslu to the west, along with Mt. Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and Dorje Lakpa. The hills below are covered in dense forests and farm villages, making for a beautiful sight. As the helicopter heads east, after about 15 minutes, you'll see Mt. Gaurishankar and Melung-Tse peaks. After passing over the Lamjura-La ridge at 3,500 meters, you'll catch a glimpse of Mt. Everest and Lhotse. The helicopter will then head north to land at Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport at 2,800 meters, a unique mountain airstrip.

While the pilot and ground staff refuel the helicopter, you'll have a short break to use the restroom and watch the smaller planes landing and taking off at Lukla Airport, which is a great photo opportunity.

If the group has more than three people or weighs over 250 kg combined. In that case, we may need to split the group at Pheriche (4,200 meters) and shuttle people back and forth on the same helicopter. Once airborne again, you'll follow the Dudh-Kosi River, which flows from the glaciers near Everest Base Camp. Along the flight, you'll see villages with lodges and tea houses where trekkers stay. After a short time, you'll pass Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, and Phortse, and from there, you'll start seeing Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam directly in front of you. On the left, you'll see Mt. Cho-Oyu, the world's sixth-highest peak, as the helicopter flies above the Tengboche Monastery. The flight then goes over Pangboche to reach Pheriche, a settlement at 4,200 meters with many nice hotels and lodges. The captain might land here to split the group if necessary. While some passengers wait at Pheriche, enjoying the scenery and taking photos, others will continue to Everest Base Camp by helicopter. The same helicopter will shuttle passengers back and forth.

The helicopter will then fly towards Everest Base Camp, offering stunning views of Cho-La Pass on the left, Lobuche Peak, and the small settlement of Lobuche. You'll see the towering peak of Mt. Pumori and fly over the Khumbu glacier, passing Gorakshep. The helicopter will circle above Everest Base Camp, where mountaineering expeditions set up their tents.
During the peak expedition season in April and May, you might see climbers preparing for their ascents at the base camp. However, due to glacier movement, avalanches, and rockfalls, the helicopter does not land at Everest Base Camp. The best and safest view of Everest is from Kala Patthar. The helicopter will not land but will offer a flyover of both Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, giving you an unforgettable aerial view. You can take photos and videos from the helicopter during this time. After the flyover, the helicopter will return to Pheriche to pick up the other passengers.

The helicopter will take you to the stunning Gokyo Lakes, a collection of oligotrophic lakes located at an altitude of 4,700 to 5,000 meters in Nepal's Sagarmatha National Park. These lakes make up the highest freshwater lake system in the world, with their crystal-clear blue and green waters creating an unforgettable view. After landing at the Gokyo Lakes, step out of the helicopter and capture this breathtaking scenery with photos and videos. This once-in-a-lifetime moment is perfect for creating memories, and you can even ask the pilot to take some photos for you. Take in the beauty for about 10-15 minutes before reboarding the helicopter for a flight to the Everest View Hotel, where breakfast and refreshments await

After your helicopter flight, the journey continues toward the Hotel Everest View, where you'll have an hour to relax and enjoy breakfast or other warm refreshments. At the hotel, you'll be treated to a hot and delicious breakfast, accompanied by the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people from the Khumbu region. As you dine, you'll be captivated by the breathtaking views of towering, snow-covered peaks right before your eyes.
The Hotel Everest View, established 50 years ago by a Japanese visionary who fell in love with this spot, is one of the highest deluxe and luxury hotels in the world. Most trekkers and helicopter passengers savor their breakfast on the terrace, taking in the magnificent panorama of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Tawache, and Thamserku.

After an hour at leisure, you can relax and unwind in the Everest View Hotel. Then fly to Lukla to refuel before continuing to Katmandu.

After a great experience on Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, we will ask for your feedback.

Note: We recommend keeping your travel dates flexible for 3 to 4 days to account for any potential weather disruptions. If your flight is delayed or canceled due to bad weather, you'll have the option to try again the following day.

Why Helicopter Doesn't Land on Everest Base Camp:

We acknowledge that some of our clients may want to visit the base camp site. However, it is crucial to preserve the delicate ecosystem of the area. The natural environment can be disrupted by landing a helicopter at Everest Base Camp, resulting in potential harm to local fauna and flora. The challenging terrain surrounding Mount Everest Base Camp makes it challenging to find a secure landing spot for passengers and crew.

During the peak season, hundreds of trekkers and climbers camp at the base camp. Thus the noise generated by the helicopter can be both disruptive and unsettling for them. Instead, we have carefully selected alternative landing sites in Syangboche, Pheriche, and Kalapatthar. These locations not only provide magnificent views of the Himalayas but are also easily accessible without causing harm to the environment. Our shuttle service from Pheriche to Kalapatthar allows for a closer view of Everest, and with window seats, everyone can enjoy the awe-inspiring mountain vistas. We are committed to delivering a safe and sustainable adventure to our clients. Embark on a Mount Everest helicopter tour that is environmentally friendly and respectful of the local community.
